User Manual for the Multifunctional Measuring and Control Device

MSG-32 / MSG-64

1.      Start Up

Before switching on the column please check all pneumatic and electrical connections for proper connection (see pneumatic setup sketch).

The air pressure has to be set at 3 bar +/- 0.1 bar.

The gauge hose with the marked number 1 has to be connected with channel 1 on the front of the column. Hose number 2, 3 and 4 accordingly.

Now – switch on the main switch on the backside of the column. A red LED will indicate “power on” (on display lower right). Waiting period approx. 15 seconds. A hardware test setup will appear before the main menu is displayed.

2.      Choosing a Measuring Program

The measuring and control device MSG-32 /64 is equipped with one (or more) measuring programs (MP) suited to your measuring application. Select your desired measuring program with the selection switch on the operating box (see measuring program list):

1: MP1 –

2: MP2 –

3.      Calibration

Connect the gauges for piston or cylinder to the MSG channels 1 through 4 according to your application (see setup sketch).

The buttons “CAL / STOP / START” on the front side of the column are synchronized with the buttons on the operating box (if available). To start the calibration process, push the red button “O”. The display changes to calibration mode and “CAL: MIN” will be displayed.

Insert the calibration piece “MIN” piston or “MIN” cylinder into the work piece fixture. Push “START” and wait for a few seconds (approx. 2-3 seconds) until the dynamic measurement value settles. Push “STOP” and remove the calibration pieces from the fixture. (a short interval is needed between pushing “START” and “STOP”)

The display changes again and “CAL: MAX” is displayed (on display upper right). Repeat the procedure accordingly with the “MAX” calibration pieces.

After completing the calibration cycle a bar diagram together with the numerical values is displayed.

Remark:

The description on the calibration pieces has to be faced always towards the operator!

4.      Measuring Cycle (general)

Example: Piston or Cylinder

Insert work piece (piston or cylinder) into the measuring fixture. Push “START”. The measurement value will be displayed on the display.

Work pieces can be exchanged as often as needed during a normal measuring cycle without pushing any additional buttons.

To freeze the obtained measurement value push “STOP” and the value will be stored temporarily.

Switching from one measuring program to the next will delete the bar diagram.

Please Note!

Multiple values of different measuring cycles cannot be saved with the measuring and control unit MSG. Only single measurements can be saved temporarily!

5.      Changing of the Calibration Values

Push “STOP” and “CAL” simultaneously. The display will switch to a selection window with the following criteria:

MP1 (measuring program 1) MP2, MP3 ... / OK /ESC

Choose the position you would like to change by using the up or down arrow (on the front of the column). Push “CAL”. After completion save the changes by choosing OK on the display and enter with “CAL”.

The “CAL” function allows the selection of different criteria and parameter levels. If you do not wish to change the original setting push “CAL” to leave the configuration mode you are in. ESC and CAL will bring you one level back.

Please Note!

During the calibration and measuring cycle the column must not be switched off!

6.      Description of Abbreviations (2 Point Calibration)

LTL

Lower Tolerance Limit

Cal. 1

Min. Calibration

Cal. 2

Max. Calibration

G-MAX

(can be changed independent of G-MIN)

Upper limit of bar display (Y-axis)

e.g.       G-MAX = 50

positive range of Y-axis form 0 to max.    +50µm

G-MIN

(can be changed independent of G-MAX)

Lower limit of bar display (Y-axis)

e.g.       G-MIN = 30

negative range of Y-axis form 0 to max.  -30µm

G-NUM

Increment of displayed numbers on bar display (Y-axis). The length of the bar remains unchanged.

e.g.       G-NUM = 10

the Y-axis will be automatically divided  and display numbers in increments of         10 µm (0, 10, 20, 30, etc)

G-NUM = 20

the Y-axis will be automatically divided  and display numbers in increments of          20 µm (0, 20, 40, 60, etc)

G-LIN

Increment of displayed lines on bar display (Y-axis).

e.g.       G-LIN = 2

the Y-axis will be automatically divided   and display lines in increments of 2 µm (0,  2, 4, 8, etc)
